Football

Football is a team sport played primarily with a round ball. It is known by various names in different regions, with “soccer” being the term predominantly used in the United States and Canada. The game typically involves two teams of eleven players each, who aim to score goals by maneuvering the ball into the opposing team’s net.

Football is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with goalposts at each end. The objective is to score more goals than the opponent within a set time, usually 90 minutes, divided into two halves. Players can use any part of their bodies except their arms and hands to control the ball; only the goalkeeper is permitted to use their hands within a designated area known as the penalty area.

The sport is governed globally by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), which organizes major international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup. Football is celebrated for its global reach, fan engagement, and cultural significance, making it one of the most popular sports worldwide.
